...Dorje Drakden (“Nechung”) is a primary guardian spirit of Tibet, its government, and people — but also of the entire world. “Nechung” refers to the Dharma Protector and the Chief Tibetan Oracle, as well as the monastery. The Oracle's energy enhances the positive aspects of human activity in the world, while helping overcome obstacles and the forces of negativity. It was on the advice and assistance of the Nechung Oracle that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama accomplished a safe passage out of Tibet in 1959. The State Oracle is often consulted on significant matters by His Holiness, the Tibetan Government, and High Lamas.

Venerable Thupten Ngodrup (“Nechung Kuten” or affectionately “Kuten La”), the Medium of Tibet's State Oracle, serves as a cabinet-level member of the Tibetan Government in Exile. He has served in this capacity for over twenty years.
